Procedure for Obtaining Sustainable Certification
Step 1
It’s important to understand how a company or organisation becomes certified (whether you have one building or multiple buildings):
One example might be: if a company has one building – then one certificate is required.
.
Another example might be: If a company has numerous buildings (offices, factories, warehouses, etc) then they can each go for a separate standard and therefore each will require it's own certificate.
.
Alternatively, if a company has numerous buildings (offices, factories, warehouses, etc) then they can be assessed collectively then the entire business can come under one certificate. Note: if each building carries out an assessment, but the company as a whole goes for one certificate, then ONLY the worst-case of any one building can be used to represent the company or organisation as a whole.
Step 2
Download the Sustainable UK Standard self-assessment spreadsheet by clicking on blue text or from the Companies & Organisations Main Page.
Fill in the spreadsheet, paying special attention to supplying the answers in the correct format.
Further help can be found by downloading and using the Guidance document (pdf file) for reference.
Step 3
When you are happy with your rating, download the Certification Form by clicking here or from the Downloads Page (link found on the left), print the form on 100% post-consumer recycled paper in draft-quality mode and fill in with your pen made from recycled material. Send with a cheque for £35+VAT (£41.13 in total) in a re-used or recycled envelope to 66 Oakland Avenue, Droitwich, Worcestershire, WR9 7BT.
We will aim to have your certificate to you within fifteen working days and also add your company/organisation’s name to the Sustainable UK website for the public to see.
Step 4
Within four weeks of recieving your certificate you must detail the ways in which you are sustainable to the public. This can be done in a number of ways including updating your website, producing a booklet, display in your receeption area. Whichever method you use, it must be clearly indicated to the public and very easily accessible. We understand this takes time away from your work, and requires time and effort to sort out. However we hope you will benefits when your stakeholders (especially the customers) comment that they are happy to be dealing with a sustainable and ethical company.
Step 5
Within six weeks of receiving your certificate we need you to send us evidence of each point you have scored. This will help to ensure that the integrity of the certification process is maintained. We also understand this takes up yet more of your time, but it helps us keep the certification costs to an absolute minimum.
Please Note:
The certificate will be dated and it is entirely up to yourself when you feel your certificate requires updating. If your rating increases or possibly decreases then the way you display how sustainable our company is MUST also be updated.
