Individual Actions

Advice

The following actions will reduce the risk of fire considerably:

• Doing some DIY around the house, then why not visit www.greenspec.co.uk to see how improved fire safety can be adopted.

• Don’t leave electrical appliances on standby – turn off at plug.

• Don’t overload electrical sockets. If you don’t have enough, then get an electrician to install more.

• Make sure you have an escape plan it is always ready to be implemented i.e. making sure exits are clear, keys are easy to find, and all occupants know the plan.

• Give up smoking, or at least don’t smoke in the house and make sure cigarettes are put out properly.

• Ask yourself – DO YOU NEED A DEEP FAT FRYER? If for some reason the answer is yes, then make sure you have one with a thermostat.

• Don’t leave lit candles unattended & make sure lighter/matches are stored properly and always away from children.

• Close doors at night to slow the rate at which a fire spreads and give occupants more time to escape.
