Energy Efficiency
Concerns with energy use
Around one quarter of all CO2 emissions are the result of space heating, domestic hot water and electrical equipment.
Global Warming
CO2 is very much linked, though not completely proven, to global warming. Whether CO2 is responsible or not, the climate is changing more rapidly than it has ever done before. This warming of the earth's atmosphere has many problems including warmer wetter winters, which is causing greater flooding and an increase in the amount of pests that are surviving over the winter e.g. the nasty horrible evil 'Scottish midge.'
Air Pollution
CO2 has a direct correlation with the main air pollutants SO2 - Sulphur Dioxide and NOx - Nitrogen Oxide. Therefore all efforts to reduce CO2 emissions will also directly reduce SO2 and NOx.
Fuel Poverty
Energy in the UK is a low cost resource which doesn't take into account the full cost of its use and environmental impact. However at the same time it is not so cheap that it doesn't cause a percentage of the population to suffer from 'Fuel Poverty.' This type of poverty is caused when energy costs are 10% or over, of the income for a house to heat itself to standard temperatures (21°C for the livingroom and 18°C all other areas). This drain on people's income stops them from being more financially secure
