Wall Insulation

Advice

There are many advantages to having your external walls insulated and it is surprising easy to have done. The first step is to check if your wall has a cavity. If you're not sure there is a 'handy tool' on the Energy Saving Trust website that can help you to ascertain whether your wall contains a cavity.

If your wall does contain a cavity then the insulation is simply added by experts who drill holes into the wall from the outside and then use a device to blow insulation into the cavity.

If your house has a solid wall then it is possible to put an insulating layer on the inside of the wall. This layer could be a thermal board (roughly half insulation and half plasterboard), that would replace your current layer of plasterboard. This is a more expensive option and is only feasible if you have to carry out major internal work to your dwelling.
