Advice

Next time you reach for your usual jar of coffee, why not consider a change to a fairtrade brand. There is now a huge range of fairtrade coffees, both instant and ground coffees, so finding one that suites your taste shouldn't be too hard. There are also an increasing number of stockists of fairtrade coffee, including smaller local stores.
Many people automatically assume that fairtrade is always more expensive, but a little research can show you that some fairtrade coffees are cheaper than their counterparts. In most cases they are a little bit more expensive and it is up to you to decide if they are outside your budget.
Other Sustainable Solutions
There are a number of instant coffee jars that are made from a large percentage (usually 70-80%) of post-consumer recycled glass. This information can be found on the side of the jar.
Once you have finished with the jar then why not give it a rinse, recycle and or reuse it. This will complete the recycling loop and minimise the environmental impact of purchasing coffee.
It is possible to get an organic fairtrade coffee. Organic farming minimises the environmental impact of farming by improving the local ecology and reducing the use of fertilisers.
You can get all of the above in a decaffeinated version. Decaffeinated coffee will help you to reduce the amount of caffeine you intake.
