The EU has placed high tariffs on imports of sugar from outside the EU. This protects sugar beet farmers within the EU at the expense of developing countries.
Whilst we can't change the 'dodgy' practices of the EU, we can give the sugar beet farmers and workers in developing countries a real future by purchasing fairtrade sugar
Only the Co-operative and Waitrose stores stock fairtrade sugar in their stores. Otherwise you will need to either find one of those local stores like the 'One World Shop,' or order a batch from an internet store.
