Fairtrade tea is one of the main fairtrade products and is very easy to find. The cost is similar to its counterparts and at least one major supermarket's own brand tea is fairtrade.

Tea provides health benefits including antioxidants, hydration and fluoride and therefore a cup or two a day won't cause you any harm and can be beneficial.

Other Sustainable considerations

Tea is usually provided in two types of packaging including foil packets and then a cardboard box or just a cardboard box. The foil does keep the tea fresher, but also adds to the amount of packaging waste, though hopefully domestic aluminium foil will be recycled soon. However it is your decision which type you go for. A growing number of recycling sites are taking cardboard why not check yours!

If you are making tea for more than yourself then why not use a teapot, which does not require a teabag for each person. This approach will minimise the amount of waste produced and give you more tea for your money.

When finished with your tea bags, throw them into your compost bin to recycle the nutrients.
