There are so many things to consider when looking to have wedding, but here are some ideas of how to make it more sustainable by integrating the following from the beginning:

The venue:

• Do they count children as a place at the table – if you like having children about then avoid unnecessary expense and get a wedding that doesn’t count children as an adult place.

• Do they offer fairtrade variants of wines, coffee, tea, sugar, etc?

• Do they offer an organic meal from local suppliers?

• Do they recycle cans, bottles and other recyclable materials?

Other considerations:

• Site the reception as close to the wedding venue as possible in order to reduce travelling and related emissions.

• The wedding cake could be made from a range of organic and/or fairtrade ingredients

• You can balance the carbon emissions produced by your wedding and honeymoon flights

• Renting wedding suites and dresses means they can be re-used, hence reducing energy materials needed to make more dresses, etc.
