It is possible to purchase renewable electricity for your dwelling through 'green' electricity tariffs from power companies. The electricity comes into your dwelling in exactly the same way with the only difference being that your money goes to companies supplying renewable electricity to the national grid.
Not all 'green' tariffs are the same and can work in different ways, including:
1. Normal grid electricity (with minimum renewable energy legal requirement), supports small renewable projects and encourages awareness
2. Part Renewable and part fossil-fuel generated electricity
3. Part renewable electricity (above minimum requirement) with support for environmental projects
4. Large percentage of renewable energy and the rest from fossil-fuel
5. 100% renewable electricity - THIS IS THE BEST GREEN ENERGY TARIFF
It can be difficult to decide when you consider the different approaches to 'green' energy. However by supporting tariffs with the greatest percentage of renewables you will be pushing the industry more and more towards a sustainable future.
