Introduction to Renewables

Renewable Energy Devices are basically an energy generation device which provides useful energy from natural energy sources such as the sun or wind.

Typical devices are solar water heating panels, photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, geothermal energy/ heat pumps and biomass (timber) burners.

We all need to use energy for warmth, cooking and entertainment, but the problem is when that energy comes from natural gas or mains electricity, it is significantly coupled with major CO2 emissions (which cause global warming problems). Using renewable energy allows us to make use of energy without the problems carbon emissions bring.

Renewables are still in their infancy and their cost is significant compared to their savings. It is therefore important to make the most of them by implementing energy-efficiency measures such as using energy-efficient light bulbs.

However it is important to get it right the first time and to avoid the cowboy salesmen & installers and therefore we strongly recommend you investigate before installing a renewable device.

The Low Carbon Buildings Programme provides details of the various technologies available to the householder and a list of technically competent Products and Installers.
