Photovoltaics

Advice

Photovoltaics are semi-electrical conducting materials which produce electricity when daylight hits the panel.

Photovoltaics are a great way to reduce the impact mains electricity has on the environment and is worth considering if you have the capital and the patience to see a return on that capital.

However, if you require your roof to be re-tiled or replaced entirely, then combined with a grant, the economics (including reduced electricity bills) of fitting PV tiles will be improved.

There are companies that will sort out everything for you, for a set price, including planning, construction of the PV array and connection of PV array and connection to the grid and getting any grants available.

We would also recommend you consider talking to your installer about potentially adding further renewables in future and could they size the various components accordingly e.g. your buget allows for a one-kilowatt photovoltaic system to be installed, but you would like to upgrade that in a couple of years time to a 2.5kw system. However it is important to discuss your options with a professional.

Further Sustainable Considerations

Use energy-efficiency measures, especially electrical-consuming appliances to make the most of your renewables.
