Consider the following ideas:
1. Keep food packaging to minimum by only getting loose fruit and vegetables with the thin small plastic bags. Avoid fruit and vegetables that are packaged with the bases and a plastic covering.
2. Consider buying a re-useable BBQ and not using the disposable type.
3. If there is a scheme in your area, then why not use a milkman to deliver your milk fresh each morning and collect your empty bottles.
4. When using your printer for necessary printing of notes or documents, consider printing to draft quality. This will reduce the amount of ink usage and save you money.
5. A lot of paper can be saved by printing on both sides. Most software will allow you to print the odd pages first then all you have to do is turn the pages over and print the even pages. If you are going to purchase a new printer, then keep in mind that some of the latest printers have a double-sided printing function.
6. Tired and sick of receiving junk mail and worried about the effect this has on the environment. Then it might be worth registering with the 'Mailing Preference Service' (MPS). Whilst on the subject, if you are sick of dodgy telephone calls then you can register with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) which will reduce/stop those dodgy telephone calls. Neither service is perfect and you may need to register every few months. However, most individuals do find that both services make a significant improvement.
7. Save money by using your local library to get out books, music, etc... well that is if you remember to take them back on time.
8. Purchase energy saving light bulbs as they will out last the standard light bulb many times over. Not only will they save you money, but they also reduce the number of times that you have to replace them and considerably reduce your impact on the environment.
