Consider the following ideas:
1. Join your local Freecycle group! You can give useable items away to people and accept items that are being given away by others. The chances are that you will have a Freecycle group in your area, which will be easily located via the main Freecycle webpage. It requires that you sign up to a Yahoo account, but doesn't cost anything so it really is a win win situation with Freecycle.
2. There are stores that re-fill ink cartridges as it is a cheaper option than replacing the cartridges each time. Check your warranty to see if using re-filled cartridges invalidates it.
3. Rechargeable batteries don't 'pack' the same kind of power compared to disposables do but they are very good at low-power applications such as remote controls, fire alarms, alarm clocks, portable radios, etc.
4. If you have spare plastic shopping bags then see if there is a local shop that collects them to allow their customers to re-use the bags. If this is not possible then consider using them to collect rubbish in smaller bins around your home.
5. If you take your lunch to work each day then consider a re-usable container instead of cling-film each day.
6. Some used, but relatively unscathed paper could be put aside as scrap paper to be used when you just need to doodle or take a note. This reduces the need to use new paper for a relatively minor need.
