Advice
Dishwashers generally use a lot more water than washing by hand, but takes less time (a precious resource itself) and therefore it is understandable why dishwashers are popular. However newer models have ways to use significantly less water than typical models.
Therefore we would recommend models which use between 12 and 15-litres for a typical wash.
If you have a dishwasher then try to make the most efficient use of it by ensuring that the machine is completely full when used but not so full as to impair its washing ability. In some situations you can time the dishwasher to make use of the cheaper energy rate at night.
Other sustainable considerations
Consider having a water meter installed to take your water bills when using water-efficient devices.
There are a growing number of appliances that are carrying the 'energy efficiency logo' from the Energy Saving Trust (EST). This is only given to appliances which achieve the very best in energy efficiency.
Armed with your list of potentials you can then search the internet for the best price.
